Theory test: The question formats

The old paper sheets are long gone: Today you take the theory exam on the PC and have to answer not only classic text and traffic sign questions, but also varied image and video questions.

Whereas the theory test used to be taken on printed sheets, it now takes place on the computer. In addition to the classic picture and text questions, there are also so-called "variations" in your exam.

These are questions where the original official picture is no longer examined, but a secret variation of it.

As you can see from the example below, the vehicles and the environment change, but the situation always remains the same!

In the theory exam you will also be presented with video questions. The computer-animated scenes, which last about 15 seconds, allow situations to be depicted realistically, e.g. the cyclist suddenly emerging from the blind spot; the child playing at the roadside; complicated conditions at intersections with various participants.

You can watch each video up to five times before you are shown the question to answer. Some of these video questions are also varied, i.e. certain characteristics of the original question are changed, e.g. the colour of the vehicles, the environment or the type of vehicles involved (car, truck, tractor, motorcycle). It is important for you to know that the traffic situations behind it always remain the same.
